Chinna Reddy urges farmers to adopt organic farming

HYDERABAD

State Planning Commission vice-chairman G. Chinna Reddy stressed the need to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and practice organic farming.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the National Maha Kisan Mela, organised by the Asian PGPR Society for Sustainable Agriculture, Telangana government, and the Telangana Agricultural Officers’ Association, at Kanha Shanti Vanam on Thursday, he explained the evolution of Indian agriculture over the past several decades.

Mr. Reddy said that crops grown using organic farming methods play a major role in keeping people healthy.

Later, awards were presented to the best farmers selected by the Asian PGPR society. Similarly, 43 farmers selected across the State were presented with certificates of appreciation as progressive farmers by the Telangana Agricultural Officers Association.

As part of the Kisan Maha Mela, scientists and farmers discussed soil microorganisms and nutrients, the importance of oil palm cultivation, horticulture, high-value crop cultivation methods, digital agriculture – artificial intelligence in agriculture, use of drones, use of IT, and agricultural producer associations.

Asian PGPR society president M.S. Reddy, Markfed Chairman Mara Gangareddy, Oilfed Chairman Janga Raghav Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Government Retired Chief Secretary Ajay Kallam, Agricultural University Retired Extension Director Dr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy and others participated in the programme.
