Chheoki railway station of Prayagraj is being developed to cater Kumbh 2031 rush Prayagraj: Chheoki railway station is set for a major infrastructure upgrade with North Central Railway planning two projects worth around Rs 109 crore to improve train operations and passenger facilities. The projects are expected to increase the station’s handling capacity and reduce delays caused by trains waiting outside the station for platform availability. The biggest project, estimated to cost Rs 89.03 crore, involves construction of two new platforms between the existing platforms. An island platform will be built between platforms 2 and 3/4, taking the total number of platforms at the station to six. At present, platforms 3 and 4 handle a large number of train arrivals and departures. It is also expected to reduce the need for trains to remain at outer locations while waiting for signals or platform clearance, thereby making train movement through the station more efficient. Each new platform will be around 700 metres long and 11 metres wide, allowing it to cater to long-distance passenger trains. The additional berthing capacity is particularly significant as Chheoki has emerged as an important operational point for trains serving Prayagraj and adjoining regions.A new six-metre-wide foot over bridge (FOB) will also be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 19.90 crore. The FOB will facilitate safer and easier movement of passengers between platforms and reduce congestion at existing passenger crossings.Officials said survey work for the projects is currently under way and construction is expected to begin soon. PRO, Prayagraj division of NCR, Amit Kumar Singh, said the two additional platforms would make train operations at Chheoki smoother and provide greater operational flexibility to the railway.
