Following a nearly 10-hour long discussion, the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Thursday (April 30, 2026) passed a resolution seeking the immediate implementation of one-third reservation for women in the Parliament and all Legislative Assemblies after completion of the delimitation process.
Earlier this month, the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which sought to redistribute Lok Sabha seats on the basis of the 2011 Census to expedite the implementation of women’s reservation, was defeated in the Lok Sabha after it failed to meet the two-thirds majority mark. Since then, BJP governments in various States have convened special sessions of the respective State Assemblies moving resolutions for the law’s implementation — and in some cases censure motions — against the Opposition.
