Centre will fund 50% of metro expansion cost, says Kishan

Hyderabad/New Delhi: Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced on Wednesday that he met with Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to review key urban development projects in Hyderabad.

The ministers discussed infrastructure, sanitation, and public transport initiatives, with a special focus on pollution control in the Musi River. Khattar revealed that under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, the Centre has sanctioned 39 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for Rs 3,975 crore. These plants will collectively treat 972 million litres of wastewater daily, significantly reducing the discharge of untreated sewage into the Musi River.

The meeting also addressed the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II project.

With the state government having taken over operations from L&T, the Centre awaits detailed project reports and technical inputs before final approval. Khattar confirmed that the Centre is prepared to proceed on a cost-sharing basis, contributing 50 per cent of expenses alongside the state government. He further noted that proposals for a 162 km metro expansion have been submitted and will be positively considered.

Emphasising the Centre’s commitment, Khattar assured that Hyderabad’s citizens will benefit from improved infrastructure and sanitation facilities. Reddy thanked the Centre on behalf of Hyderabad’s residents for its support in advancing the city’s development.
