The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case involving former officials of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Jorhat, and eight private medical shop proprietors over alleged fraudulent medical claims amounting to Rs 45 lakh.
The case, filed on 17 June 2025, names ten individuals, including Bijoy Kumar Shaw, former Deputy General Manager (Medical Services), and Dr Eashitva Tamuli, Contractual Medical Officer (Occupational Health) of ONGC, Jorhat. The remaining accused are the proprietors of private medical shops based in Jorhat, Assam.
According to the CBI, between 2019 and 2022, the public servants allegedly conspired with the shop owners to generate false bills based on fake requisition slips for the supply of medicines. These claims were made without the knowledge or authorisation of ONGC beneficiaries or their dependents.
The agency has identified the medical shop proprietors as Bhanwari Lal Lakhotia of Lakhotia Medical Hall, Satadal Ghosh of North East Medical, Khirud Saikia of Jay Sankar Medical, Minakshi Baruah of Minakshi Drugs, Shankar Goswami of New Sanjivani Medical, Ritu Barpatra Gohain of Nishita Medical, Masuma Rahman Goney of Tini Ali Medical Hall, and Purnima Bordoloi of Deepali Medical.
Search operations were carried out at the residences of the accused individuals, during which several incriminating documents were reportedly recovered.
