BJP high command summons Manipur MLAs to Delhi amid president’s rule

Imphal: Speculation is high in Manipur’s political landscape under the current president’s rule, as BJP Manipur unit President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi left Imphal for New Delhi on Friday following a directive from the party high command.

She, along with the BJP MLAs in the state, has been asked to attend a meeting in Delhi on December 14, 2025.

This development follows President Droupadi Murmu’s two-day official visit to Manipur, which concluded on Friday.

The BJP high command, on Thursday, instructed Sharda Devi to ensure that all BJP MLAs, including those from the Kuki-Zo communities, travel to New Delhi without fail for the meeting scheduled at 5:30 pm on December 14.

Reports indicate that the meeting will be convened by BJP National President JP Nadda. While some BJP MLAs are already in the national capital, others, including those in Manipur, are expected to reach Delhi by December 13 at the latest.

Regarding this development, former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the BJP leadership’s decision to summon the party’s MLAs to New Delhi could lead to a “positive outcome.”

Speaking to the media in Imphal on Friday, he added that amid the continuing uncertainty in the state’s political scenario under president’s rule, there is hope for a positive change.

Biren Singh, who confirmed the party high command meeting, noted that it will happen; however, no official agenda has been communicated yet.

Notably, the Manipur State Assembly was placed under suspended animation with effect from February 13, following Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s resignation on February 9, 2025.

At the time of the suspension, the party positions in the sixty-member assembly were: BJP (37), NPP (6), NPF (5), INC (5), KPA (2), JD(U) (1), Independents (3), and Vacant (1).

The term of the current legislators is set to end in March 2026.
