NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP while commenting on the political turmoil in neighbouring Nepal, where Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned following violent protests against a social media ban and corruption.Raut shared a video of arson and street unrest from Kathmandu on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Nepal today… this situation can arise in any country. Beware! Bharat Mata ki Jai, Vande Mataram.” He also tagged PM Modi and the BJP in his post, making his target of criticism clear.

His comments came hours after Oli stepped down in the wake of massive youth-led demonstrations that turned violent, leaving at least 19 people dead. The protests, sparked by a controversial decision to block social media platforms, soon escalated into broader anger over government corruption and nepotism.Raut’s post triggered an immediate debate on social media. Supporters echoed his warning about corruption and suppression of dissent, while critics accused him of stoking unrest. One user, Alok Ranjan, questioned, “Is this a threat, a conspiracy, or a warning? You should know that the dream you have will not be fulfilled in India.” Another user, Sunny, wrote: “You think India is Sri Lanka? Try and see, we will burn Lanka, not India.”By invoking the unrest in Nepal and tagging Modi directly, Raut has sought to underline what he sees as the risks of ignoring public anger in India.
