Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended his public support to Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, amidst ongoing criticism directed at Ronghang’s leadership.
Describing Ronghang as a “respected leader who rose from a humble Karbi village to become the CEM of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council,” Sarma credited him with playing a central role in what he termed the region’s progress and enduring peace. He said that “unprecedented development, along with lasting peace and stability” in Karbi Anglong was a direct result of Ronghang’s leadership.
The Chief Minister also condemned what he alleged were attempts to undermine Ronghang’s position. Without naming specific individuals or groups, Sarma suggested that some of those behind the criticism may have external affiliations. “The spirit of progress will not be dampened by attempts to discredit a leader of his stature, especially by those acting at the behest of hostile forces like Pakistan,” he said.
Reinforcing his support for the people of the district, Sarma stated that the community remained “united and fully committed to preserving the hard-earned peace and continuing their collective journey toward greater development.”
Ronghang has held the role of CEM for multiple terms and continues to be a key political figure in the region. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council oversees administration in the Karbi Anglong district, which has seen a number of developmental initiatives in recent years under Ronghang’s tenure.
