The Assam State Election Commission has announced the commencement of the nomination process for the upcoming state elections. Candidates can submit their nomination papers from Monday until 23 March at the offices of their respective Deputy Commissioners between 11 am and 1 pm.
The scrutiny of nominations will take place on 24 March. Candidates will have until 26 March to withdraw their nominations. Campaigning will continue until 5 pm on 7 April, while polling is scheduled to be held on 9 April.
According to the Commission, Assam has a total electorate of 2,50,21,413 voters. This includes 1,25,16,591 men and 1,25,04,501 women. There are also 321 voters registered under the third gender category. Among the electorate, 6,28,093 voters are aged between 18 and 19, while 2,482 voters are above 100 years of age.
To conduct the elections, the Commission has established 31,486 polling stations across the state. Dalgaon has the highest number of voters at 3,17,110, while Amri has the lowest at 1,00,494. In terms of polling stations, Mankachar has the highest number at 402, while Dotoma has the lowest with 146.

For security arrangements, around 200 companies of police forces will be deployed across Assam. Authorities will carry out checks at state and district borders, and CCTV cameras will be used to monitor polling areas. Licensed firearm holders have been directed to deposit their weapons with the police.
The Election Commission has also announced measures aimed at ensuring transparency during the election process. Citizens have been instructed not to carry more than Rs 15,000 in cash without a valid reason. Any seizure of more than Rs 10 lakh will be investigated by the Income Tax Department.
To assist voters, electronic voting machines will display coloured photographs of candidates for easier identification. Mobile phones will not be allowed inside the voting compartment to maintain the secrecy of the ballot.
A dedicated helpline number, 6026900682, has been set up for complaints, including those related to AI-generated objectionable videos.
The Commission has also deployed flying squads and installed CCTV cameras at polling stations and border check posts. Officials stated that the election process will be closely monitored to ensure that polling is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
