With the impact of El Nino on the southwest monsoon, as many as twelve states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Gujarat, Bihar, Rajsthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand have been hit with deficit rainfall this creating hurdles to the farmers and agriculture works. The States are taking necessary steps to tackle the problem and cautioned the people to go for the crops that require less amount of water. The States have formed the teams in the districts and alerting the people of the deficit rainfall and giving suggestions on crops and the drinking water.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu who has held a cabinet meeting on Thursday has reviewed strategies to tackle the impact of El Niño on the southwest monsoon and directed the officials that the public be kept informed about the evolving El Niño situation. He instructed ministers and officials to pay special attention to drinking water supply and the availability of cattle fodder. The chief minister has also asked the officials about the crops that are to be grown in this hour of the time with the impact of the EL Nino. Naidu has also sought the report on the effect of El nino from the Irrigation and the Agricultural departments.

On the other hand, Telangana has already started to take measures. The government urged farmers to cultivate low-water-consuming crops and directed the concerned departments to implement emergency measures. The government is conducting the district -level meeting for awareness to the people on the El nino formulating the plans to avoid problems.
