Amarnath Yatra bus accident: 30 pilgrims injured in Jammju and Kashmir Ganderbal crash

A bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims overturned in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district early Tuesday, leaving at least 30 passengers injured, officials said.

The bus was carrying around 50 pilgrims from the Baltal base camp to Srinagar when it met with an accident on the Sonamarg road. Officials said the vehicle overturned and rolled about 20-25 metres down a roadside slope before coming to rest on the roof of a house.

Around 30 passengers suffered minor injuries in the accident and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical examination and treatment, officials said, adding that no fatalities were reported.

Personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a rescue operation immediately after the accident, with ITBP medics providing first aid to the injured before they were shifted to a hospital.

Security personnel also supervised the rescue operation, evacuation of passengers, medical assistance, crowd management and traffic regulation in the area.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known and further investigation is underway.
