All students stable after diarrhoea outbreak at AIIMS Mangalagiri

Nearly 30 students fell sick with symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting at the All India Institute of Medical Sceinces (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, in the past three days.

According to information from the management, the symptoms began on Thursday (March 6) and Friday (March 7), among undergraduate students. A press release was issued by the management on Monday, stating that there have been no fresh cases since March 8 and that all students are stable and have recovered. There is no clarity yet on the cause.

The management had halted water supply to the affected block for a day last week and resumed it after conducting necessary checks. The authorities suspect it could either be contamination of water in the tank of a particular block or it could be due to outside food. The incident was reported after the Holi celebrations.

Forty stool samples were sent for testing at the hospital to confirm wether it was diarrhoea, and the reports returned positive on Monday evening.
