India and Pakistan agreed to continue their dialogue “to seek a peaceful and negotiated settlement” to end the border clashes in the Siachen glacier area. According to the agreement, the two sides will meet in New Delhi in late March or early April to resolve the issue as a step towards easing tensions.
Gaddafi invites Reagan
The Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, has invited US President Ronald Reagan to visit him in his Bedouin tent so that he can prove he is not a terrorist. “If Reagan came here, he would change his mind. He would see that I don’t live in trenches with hand-grenades in my belt or carry a pistol,” Gaddafi told five women journalists. He told the journalists that he was issuing the invitation to Reagan through them.
Terrorists enter India
Five Pakistan-trained terrorists armed with sophisticated rifles have recently infiltrated into India. The terrorists’ targets may be VIPs in Delhi, Chandigarh and some other places in Punjab. The Intelligence Bureau has passed on this information to the Punjab government and also to the Delhi administration, asking them to tighten VIP security.
Mamata hurt in lathi charge
Congress (I) MP Mamata Banerjee and several party men were injured when the police allegedly lathi-charged them in front of Behala police station. Banerjee was admitted to the SSKM hospital in Calcutta. Party sources alleged that Congressmen led by Banerjee were demonstrating outside the police station when they were beaten up by the police. Transport Minister J Mukherjee said the demonstrators set fire to a state bus and damaged several others at a depot nearby.
