Prayagraj: A wanted criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested along with three accomplices after a police encounter in Kaushambi on Sunday night.The criminal, identified as Mohd Arshad alias Cheddan, sustained bullet injury and was admitted to the district hospital for treatment. A country made pistol of 0.315 bore, two used and one unused cartridge, two sharp edge weapons, one rope, Rs 1560 cash, torch was recovered near the spot.Police said a team of Sarayakil police was conducting routine checks near Usmanpur -Hasanpur link road when they received an input that a group of suspicious men, were planning calf slaughtering near Hasanpur.The miscreants were surrounded by the police team but one of them opened fire. The police retaliated injuring Mohd Arshad.Police said Arshad, a resident of Panara Gopalpur, has six criminal cases pending against him in Kaushambi district. His accomplices, identified as Sunne alias Illias, Nafees and Faqhrul, all residents of Sarayakil were also arrested after a brief chase.Police said that the arrested members are a part of an inter-district gang involved in cattle smuggling and slaughtering. Cops are also looking for two other members of the gang.
