Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh has commissioned the 132 kV Miao-Namsai transmission line, a major power infrastructure project aimed at improving electricity reliability in Changlang district and neighbouring areas, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced on Wednesday.
The nearly 41-km transmission line links Namsai, Diyun and Miao and has been developed under the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS), a centrally approved initiative to modernise power infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Sharing the development on social media, Mein, who also oversees the power and hydropower departments, described the commissioning as a significant step towards building a stronger and more resilient electricity network in the state.
He said the new transmission line would enhance power reliability across Changlang district and surrounding regions by strengthening grid connectivity, reducing dependence on long radial transmission networks and meeting the area’s increasing energy demand.
According to Mein, Arunachal Pradesh has so far commissioned 91 of the 239 components planned under the CSST&DS programme, indicating steady progress in upgrading the state’s transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The deputy chief minister congratulated the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), the state power department, district administrations, executing agencies and all other stakeholders involved in completing the project.
The Centre approved the CSST&DS to strengthen electricity transmission and distribution systems in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The programme focuses on improving grid connectivity, ensuring reliable power supply, reducing transmission losses, and supporting development in remote and border regions.
Implemented by PGCIL in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh government, the scheme includes the construction of transmission lines, substations and related distribution infrastructure to modernise the state’s power network.
Officials said the overall project is scheduled for completion by 2027 and is expected to improve power availability, operational efficiency and the integration of Arunachal Pradesh’s expanding electricity system with the national grid.
