New information has been made public regarding the murders at The Edition hotel in Reykjavík in June 2025. Yesterday, the woman arrested at the scene was charged with the manslaughter of her daughter, allegedly acting together with her husband, reports RÚV.
The woman’s name has now been made public for the first time. Ming Ting Mancel has been charged with the murder of her 29-year-old daughter, Catherine Mancel, but not her husband, Emeric Mancel, who was found dead in the same hotel room.
In police questioning, Ming Ting initially said the family had planned to die by suicide together. She claimed her husband had intended to stab himself in the heart but ultimately asked her to do it, and she complied. Later, she changed her statement, denying that she had stabbed them. Instead, she said her husband first stabbed their daughter and then her. According to her, it was he who brought the knives to Iceland and decided the time and place of the act.
After almost a year of investigation, very little information about the family has emerged. However, available facts point to inheritance disputes involving Emeric’s sister. There is still no clear explanation as to why the family intended to take their own lives.
While Ming Ting awaits trial, she remains in Iceland under a travel ban that has been extended, though not beyond September 28.
