Tax Day in Iceland is March 13, 2026. If you’ve got this all covered, congratulations. If you struggle with anxiety and Icelandic, then this is a brief guide.

To file, you’ll go to the tax office, skatturinn.is, and click the þjónustuvefir section. There you will use your digital ID to sign in. Filing the tax return itself from that point is a four-page process. (Five if you’re married.)

The biggest complications we’ve dealt with are employers going bankrupt and not having submitted employee tax contributions accurately, real estate purchases, divorces and inheritance.

We called the tax office today for assistance at 442-1000. In our trial, while the office said there were eight people ahead of us in line, we were able to get help after waiting only 10 minutes. The office helped using English, when we requested that.

Remember to file, and good luck. If you have a situation where you’ve participated in the gig economy, we have an article that may be of help.
