A delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Budapest held talks on Thursday with Attila Nagy, President of the National Election Office, the institute confirmed on Friday.
Caroline Savage, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Richard Heater, a diplomat in the political department, and Máté Hegedűs, political advisor, participated in the meeting on behalf of the embassy.
The talks focused on the preparations for this year’s general parliamentary elections.
The parties reviewed the Hungarian parliamentary election system, the legal and institutional framework for organizing the elections, and the latest legislative changes.
During the meeting, they discussed the current tasks related to the conduct of the elections, in particular the provision of information to voters, candidates, nominating organizations, and international observers, as well as the measures and safeguards designed to ensure a lawful, transparent, and secure electoral process, they added.

They emphasized that the National Election Office’s primary goal is to strengthen professional dialogue and international relations, which can contribute to the continuous improvement of the electoral process.
Recently, President Tamás Sulyok set April 12 as the date for the parliamentary elections.
