“This is the biggest political realignment in the last 100 years”, PM tells CPAC

At CPAC Hungary 2026, PM Orbán focused on what he described as a historic turning point for the Western world, linking recent global political developments to a broader ideological shift and placing Hungary at the center of the ongoing transformation.

In his address, PM Orbán argued that the Western world has undergone a significant change following the victory of President Donald Trump. According to the prime minister, this shift has led to the rollback of progressive trends, stating that “the Western world is a better place” where “what is natural is true,” and where traditional values such as family and Christianity can once again be openly affirmed.

Prime Minister Orbán highlighted the impact of these changes on Hungary as well, pointing to what he described as a renewed era in Hungarian-American relations. He noted the restoration of visa-free travel, the conclusion of strategic energy agreements, and the arrival of numerous high-tech investments from the United States. In his words, this period marks a “golden age” of cooperation between the two countries.

Placing these developments in a broader context, PM Orbán described the current moment as “the biggest political realignment in the last 100 years of Western civilisation.” He identified the United States as the epicenter of this transformation, while portraying Hungary as its European stronghold.

Beyond political change, the prime minister framed the situation as a deeper ideological struggle. “We are not just doing politics,” PM Orbán said, emphasizing that conservative forces are engaged in a wider battle “for the soul of the Western world.” He outlined that this struggle extends across multiple domains, including education, culture, religion, and the economy, with politics representing the frontline.

Turning to Hungary’s domestic situation, Prime Minister Orbán described the country as both a stable base for conservative governance and a focal point of external pressure. He stated that Hungary has served as “the strongest bastion of national conservative forces in the European Union” for over a decade, while also facing coordinated challenges from both Brussels and Ukraine. According to the prime minister, recent attempts to weaken Hungary have failed, and the country has maintained stability, including in its energy system.

Looking ahead, PM Orbán stressed the high stakes of upcoming political contests. “If we win here, we will not only defend Hungary, but we will also break down the gates of the progressives in Brussels,” he said. He expressed confidence in electoral success and reiterated that the future of Europe should be determined by its nations rather than bureaucratic institutions.

In closing, Prime Minister Orbán framed the moment as decisive, calling it a mission and an opportunity for conservative forces to shape Europe’s future, declaring that “it is our time” and urging continued momentum toward victory.
