After an increase of 32.2 percent in 2024, and 21.2 percent in 2025, the salaries of kindergarten, primary, and secondary school teachers will rise by a further 10 percent, Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of the Interior, announced on Facebook.
In his post, Bence Rétvári pointed out that teachers’ salaries had more than doubled in five years. He recalled that those who teach disadvantaged children had been granted an additional 20 percent increase and that a quality allowance had also been paid since September.
“Teachers are finally receiving a salary that is commensurate with their profession,” said the state secretary, adding that
this is also a predictable salary increase, as it will be raised each year until 2031, by the average increase in the salaries of university graduates.”
With this increase, the average teacher’s salary in Hungary is now over 900,000 forints (2,300 euros). According to Rétvári, the salary increase will be financed largely from domestic budget funds (88 percent) and 12 percent from European Union funds.
The increasing popularity of the teaching profession is also reflected in the enrollment figures, as this year again saw a record number of teacher training students enrolled at universities,”
he continued.
“We thank kindergarten, primary, and secondary school teachers for their work. The salary increase will be credited to their accounts in February. I wish everyone a successful school year,” Rétvári concluded.
