Starting today, designated personnel from the Hungarian Defense Forces will help ensure that firewood provided under the social firewood program reaches those in need.
In three counties – Baranya, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg – over 30 trucks and 160 soldiers are participating in the task.
Soldiers load the chopped firewood onto trucks, transport it to the specified addresses, and unload at the destination.
The task is being carried out by the Lahner György 2nd Supply Regiment, the Bocskai István 11th Armored Brigade, the Klapka György 1st Armored Brigade with its Kaposvár battalion, the vitéz Vattay Antal 2nd Territorial Defense Regiment, the Bauer Gyula 5th Territorial Defense Regiment, and the Bornemissza Gergely 2nd Reconnaissance Regiment.
The personnel assigned to these units are carrying out their tasks under the leadership of the Logistics Support Command.
Five trucks from the supply regiment are already on their way, delivering fuel to Babarc, Harkány, and Szentlőrinc (all in southern Hungary) on Thursday. At the beginning of the week, soldiers also helped with traffic control on the M1 motorway and the M0 expressway, which became necessary due to freezing rain.
The distribution of firewood is crucial, as cold conditions are forecast to persist in the coming week.
