PM responds as prosecutors move against Fidesz server centre

According to Fidesz’s own statement, investigators carried out a search and seizure today in connection with servers belonging to Viktor Orbán’s party. “We are waiting for the prosecutor’s office to brief us!” wrote Prime Minister Péter Magyar on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

In a comment attached to the post, the prime minister added that they were waiting to be informed of what case is being investigated and what was seized.

Bertalan Havasi, Fidesz’s communications director, told MTI on Tuesday that prosecutors’ investigators appeared without prior notice on Tuesday at the centre housing the Fidesz servers, with the intention of seizing the party’s entire communications system and databases.

In his statement, Bertalan Havasi wrote that nothing like this had happened in Hungary since 1990, the end of communism.

“Authoritarian rule has taken things to a new level today,” he assessed.

He stated that Fidesz would yield neither to political nor to legal threats, would not retreat, and would stand up against the violent authoritarianism of Tisza Párt.
