VfL Wolfsburg and Bence Dárdai have received some extremely disappointing news. According to information from Kickers, the 19-year-old Hungarian, who plays in the German Bundesliga, has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and will require surgery, which will likely end Bence Dárdai’s season.
Bence Dárdai was starting his second season with German first division club Wolfsburg. After getting more and more playing time last season, the midfielder also made his debut for the Hungarian national team in the spring. However, there was a change of coach at his club over the summer, which was unfavorable for the 19-year-old player, as Dutchman Paul Simonis did not trust him at all. Dárdai only played in one Bundesliga match. The Hungarian footballer was able to breathe a sigh of relief when the VfL Wolfsburg club management decided to change coaches two weeks ago.
Dárdai was already out of the squad for the matches against Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen due to injury, but at that time it was not yet clear how serious the injury was. The news suggested that his condition was not serious, as he had not been ruled out of the previous championship match.
Unfortunately, Kicker now reported very different news. The German newspaper confirmed that Dárdai has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee.
Three weeks ago, Dárdai was in the squad for the 2-3 defeat against Hoffenheim, but was unable to play. He therefore took part in the reserve team’s training session the next day, where the accident occurred: the Hungarian international suffered a knee injury.
According to Kicker‘s report, Dárdai will undergo surgery in his hometown of Berlin. He will then face months of rehabilitation.

VfL Wolfsburg also reported on X about the Hungarian footballer’s injury and wished him a speedy recovery.
Peter Christiansen, sporting director at VfL, said on the club’s website: ‘This is not an easy situation, especially for a young player like Bence. We will support him as best we can. We wish him all the best for the operation and the subsequent healing process.’
