MEPs Condemn EU Parliament for Blocking Tribute to Murdered U.S. Influencer Charlie Kirk

The commemoration of American influencer Charlie Kirk’s murder was not allowed in Strasbourg, during the plenary session, Fidesz MEPs said on their Facebook pages on Thursday.

MEP Csaba Dömötör said in his video that Charlie Kirk’s death had shocked the world. The right wing initiated a minute of silence before Thursday’s vote, but this was prevented by the socialist president, he explained.

“If someone were to say that the assassination took place in America and not in Europe, I can say that there was a silent commemoration here in the European Parliament after George Floyd’s death,” Csaba Dömötör further said:

This is the attitude toward human dignity of those who constantly preach basic human values.”

MEP Kinga Gál, Vice President of the Patriots for Europe group expressed her anger, writing: “This is the height of hypocrisy! Shame on them!”

We would have liked to observe a minute of silence in today’s @Europarl_EN plenary session in memory of Charlie Kirk.

Left-wing groups of the European Parliament prevented this for obvious ideological reasons.

This is the height of hypocrisy! Shame on them!

András László, Fidesz MEP stated:

Patriots and conservatives demanded a minute of silence in the European Parliament today for Charlie Kirk. As it was expected that the socialist chair wouldn’t allow it, Charlie Weimers parliamentarian said he will yield his time for silence. The socialist chair deliberately started talking immediately. We stood for Charlie!”

MEP of the Our Homeland Movement (Mi hazánk mozgalom) Zsuzsanna Borvendég responded to Charlie Kirk’s murder and the events in the European Parliament in a Facebook post. She wrote: “Yesterday, a man died because of his opinion. A husband and father died.

No matter which side he was on, he was murdered because he believed in something and voiced his opinion.”

In her view, the attack not only claimed the life of an innocent man, but also attacked “freedom of speech and expression, freedom of conscience.” She criticized European Parliament President Roberta Metsola for not allowing the one-minute silence initiated by MEPs. “It’s no big deal. One minute of our lives. In the EP, every little thing causes a huge storm, but it seems that the death of a person, of course, only if they are conservative and a Trump supporter, is not worth a single minute of silence,” she wrote. She added that although several people stood up anyway, the acting president immediately opened the vote, while “the scene was accompanied by the enthusiastic approval, laughter, and applause of the insensitive left-wing liberal representatives.”

State Secretary Zoltán Kovács said that Charlie Kirk was shot dead “just because he stood up for his nation and his country.” He added that there had been an assassination attempt against Trump in America, Robert Fico had been shot at in Europe, and riots and arson were a daily occurrence in Western cities filled with migrants.

And meanwhile, here in Hungary? Viktor Orbán, nationalist politicians, and even voters are subjected to hatred, threats, and incitement on a daily basis,”

he wrote.

❗The culture of violence is being deliberately imported into Hungary!@charliekirk11 – a young Christian father, influencer, and one of the most prominent figures of conservative America – was shot dead simply because he stood up for his country and for conservative values.

The state secretary emphasized that left-wing activists no longer engage in debate—they punch, shove, and threaten with hanging, bullets, and lynching. “This is no longer politics. This is a declaration of war, he wrote, adding that the goal is intimidation, chaos, and the elimination of national forces. We will not allow Hungary to become a victim of political violence!” he concluded.
