A stationary vessel that serves as one of Esztergom’s most distinctive riverside attractions was damaged in a collision with a hotel ship on the Danube earlier this week.
According to Blikk, the ex-Komárom – permanently moored near Erzsébet Park and well-known for hosting cultural and community events – was struck along its side by a manoeuvring hotel ship. Esztergom Mayor Ádám Hernádi confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, noting that while there were no injuries, the damage to the vessel could be significant.

Hotel ship collides with stationary vessel
The collision occurred close to the city’s rugby pitch, where the ex-Komárom has long been docked after retiring from active service. Hernádi stated that the water police are investigating the circumstances of the accident to determine the exact cause and assess liability.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the hotel ship may have misjudged its manoeuvre during docking or navigation in the area, resulting in the impact. Authorities have yet to release official findings, but preliminary information indicates the strike happened while the hotel ship was repositioning.

Significant damage to a local landmark
The ex-Komárom is widely regarded as a local landmark, attracting both residents and tourists with its exhibitions, concerts, and other public gatherings. While the damage has not yet been quantified publicly, officials have reassured the community that safety was not compromised and that repairs will be addressed after the investigation concludes.
