In December 2025, 1.4 million guests spent 3.2 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments. Tourist arrivals were up by 12% and tourism nights by 9.2% in number compared to a year earlier.
In January-December 2025, the number of domestic and international guests arriving to tourist accommodation establishments was 3.2% and 12% higher respectively than in the same period of the previous year.
In December 2025 the number of tourist arrivals increased by 12% and that of tourism nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments by 9.2%. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of arrivals expanded by 9.3% and that of tourism nights by 6.2% compared to December 2024. 70% of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number grew by 11% from the previous year. Private and other accommodation establishments recorded 14% more tourist arrivals than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals and domestic tourism nights was 10% and 6.6% higher respectively than in the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic arrivals grew by 4.7% and that of domestic tourism nights by 3.8% compared to December 2024. The 604 thousand domestic guests spent nearly 1.3 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 466 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.0 million tourism nights. Hotels received 85% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 12% compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation was 7.9% higher than in December 2024. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic arrivals increased in all tourism areas2, with the largest growth in the Pécs region (by 24%). The number of domestic arrivals to tourist accommodation establishments was 11% higher in Budapest and 12% higher at Lake Balaton.
The number of international tourist arrivals was up by 13% and that of international tourism nights by 11% compared to the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of international arrivals grew by 11% and that of international tourism nights by 8.9% compared to December 2024. The 819 thousand international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent nearly 2.0 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 527 thousand tourist arrivals and approximately 1.3 million tourism nights. Hotels received 87% of the latter arrivals, where their number was 8.4% higher than a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 17% higher than in December 2024. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased the most in Greater Budapest (by 25%) and fell the most in the Gyula region (by 7.3%). The number of international arrivals to tourist accommodation was 14% higher in Budapest and 18% higher at Lake Balaton.
A total of 22,889 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,130 commercial and 20,759 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 931 hotels and 882 boarding houses were open for part or all of December.
The total gross sales revenue of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 103.9 billion, 14% more at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 3.0 billion, 13% more at current prices compared to the same month of the previous year, at tourist accommodation establishments.
