Drawing on the experiences of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Hungarian Defense Forces, along with other European armies, have entered the era of drone warfare, announced Colonel General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Hungarian Defense Staff, during a presentation in Tatárszentgyörgy, in Pest County.
Previously used mainly for observation and reconnaissance purposes, drones now play a broader role in modern conflict. They can now also serve as carriers for hand and mortar grenades. In response to this development, the Hungarian Defense Forces began building up this new capability several months ago.

A recently launched research and development project has now reached a milestone, honvedelem.hu reports.
As part of the project, various ignition and triggering mechanisms were tested. A particular innovation is the development of a unique type of bomb manufactured using 3D printing technology.
According to Colonel Norbert Tóth, head of the General Staff’s Capability Development Office, the tests conducted so far have been highly successful. The devices demonstrated during drop tests from various altitudes functioned precisely, reliably, and safely, he noted.

The aim of the development is to create munitions that can be seamlessly integrated into the systems of the Hungarian Defense Forces.
In the next phase of the program, prototypes will be developed that meet military requirements and serve as the foundation for mass production.
During the most recent tests, various weapons were mounted on three commercially available drone types, including hand grenades used by the Hungarian forces and a self-developed explosive device, in order to successfully engage targets.
