San Pedro Sula, Cortés – The United States Government, through the U.S. Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program, is delivering 22 containers of preassembled school furniture to the Government of Honduras, valued at more than 10.6 million lempiras (US$395,000), to improve educational conditions for Honduran students.

The donation will benefit 166 schools in the departments of Cortés, Santa Bárbara, and Yoro that were identified and prioritized by the Ministry of Education. The furniture includes desks, tables, chairs, children’s furniture, shelving units, filing cabinets, and other items for school use. The inventory also includes equipment such as televisions, among other items intended for the schools.

Due to the volume of the donation, the Ministry of Education will implement a logistics plan for the immediate receipt, inventory, and distribution of the items, using facilities provided by the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) in San Pedro Sula as a transfer point to expedite delivery of the furniture to the schools. Distribution will be carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Education, COPECO, and the 105th Brigade, which will support the receipt, inventory, transportation, unloading, and delivery of the furniture.

This donation reaffirms the United States’ commitment to Honduras and to the education of future generations through concrete actions that help create better learning environments, expand opportunities for young people, and strengthen Honduran communities. By strengthening Honduras’ education system and development, the United States promotes a safer, more prosperous, and more self-reliant hemisphere.
