The Embassy of Colombia hosted a working session at the World Trade Centre in Kingston featuring visiting Colombian playwright and actress Marilyn Biscaino Miller and several Guyanese theatre professionals. The event formed part of the embassy’s wider cultural initiative called “Sounds and Stages of Origin: Weaving Cultural Networks between Colombia and Guyana.”

Miller’s one-week visit to Guyana marked her first time in the country and formed part of her ongoing efforts to promote intercultural collaboration between Colombia and Guyana. The 60-year-old playwright and actress, who has more than 35 years of experience in theatre, told Stabroek Weekend via her translator that her aim was to share her techniques and artistic methods with local practitioners, leaving a lasting impact on the Guyanese theatre community.

She shared that her visit, which began on October 26, also served as preparation for future collaboration, as she extended an opportunity for Guyanese to take part in the 15th edition of the Ethnic Roots Festival in Colombia next year, which will accommodate a delegation of about 15 participants.
