A violent confrontation between a Guyanese worker and a senior manager at the Chinese-owned Zijin Mining Aurora Goldfield has triggered a full-scale investigation by the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning.
The incident, which unfolded on Monday at the company’s Region Seven operation, was captured in videos that have since drawn widespread attention after being published by Team Mohamed’s Facebook page.
One of the videos shows the worker seated in a room with several managers, complaining that he and his colleagues have been working underground without proper protective equipment. Moments later, he springs to his feet and throws a chair at one of the managers. A second clip shows the confrontation moving outside of the office as other employees attempted to restrain him.
