For the first time, Grenada’s public healthcare system is now furnished with mammogram equipment that includes biopsy capability, following the official handing over of machinery to the General Hospital from US Radiologist, Dr Randy Becker.
With breast cancer being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths of women in Grenada, the equipment is expected to significantly aid in the early detection of the disease. The handover ceremony took place last Friday.
Dr Becker said the machinery will aid radiologists in real-time management of complex breast examinations. Improving access to women’s healthcare and screening services in Grenada is an important health initiative for the country.
Minister of Health Hon. Philip Telesford called it an historic milestone in the advancement of women’s healthcare in Grenada. Minister Telesford reiterates that the government remains steadfast in its promise to deliver a transformed healthcare landscape that speaks directly to the needs of citizens, and this mammogram equipment with biopsy capability is a clear example of that vision in action.
