With 2026 less than 60 days old, Grenadians are incensed over recent acts of senseless violence that claimed the lives of two females.
The latest victim is 18-year old Terrecheal Sebastian of Tivoli, St. Andrew who was murdered on February 17 allegedly by an individual whom she was having an affair with for some years.
She was seen lying on the ground at around 5.20 a.m in front of a popular supermarket in the village.
Sources told THE NEW TODAY that a police officer who was on his way to work from St Andrew to St George stopped on the scene to investigate what was happening.
He reportedly called the Grenville Police station which was not aware of the incident.
An eyewitness said that minutes before the incident, he saw Sebastian standing by the side of the road in close proximity to a male individual who was known to be associated with her for years.
Sebastian was on her way to work at Subway when she was killed.
A spokesperson for the company referred to her as a very reliable worker who always reached to work on time and was dedicated to her duties.
She expressed shock that someone would commit such an act of violence against an individual who was getting up early every morning to try and make a life of her own.
Police have since charged Deron Tobias, a 38 years old bus driver of La Poterie in St. Patrick North-east for the murder.
He was on the run but eventually captured and charged with the offence of Capital Murder by intentionally causing the death of Sebastian by unlawful harm.
The suspect made his first court appearance last Friday (February 20) at Grenville Magistrate’s Court.
Two days later on Sunday, Police were called upon to investigate a shooting incident at Mont Tout, St. George which resulted in three males sustaining injuries to various parts of their bodies.
A police bulletin said that the victims were transported to the St George’s General Hospital for medical treatment and “are currently reported to be in stable condition.”
30-year old Jamie Jeremiah alias ‘Jay Jay’ and unemployed of Grand Anse Housing Scheme, St. George was arrested and charged by police on Tuesday in connection with the shooting incident.
The accused was charged with three (3) counts of Attempted Non-Capital Murder, Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence.
Jeremiah made his first court appearance on Thursday at St. George’s Magistrate’s Court.
Speculation is rife in the Underworld of Crimes on the island that the Mont Tout shooting is related to gambling.
According to one insider, some men do not take kindly to losing their money in gambling and often resort to violence.
He said the loser can also become very aggressive and violent especially when the winner starts “to give them chat and old talk and make them look rather small.”
“I have done a lot of things in the past but never gambling – I just don’t like to lose my money that way,” he remarked.
