The St Andrew’s Development Organisation (SADO) is observing the months of September and October as a period of awareness and advocacy for breast and prostate cancer.
Since 2015, SADO has been partnering with valued stakeholders to organise the annual awareness campaign, a campaign that the organisation is pleased to report has grown into a beacon of hope and a community for individuals affected by cancer. The organisation is also pleased to support the St Andrew Breast Cancer Group with survivors in St Andrew and St Patrick and is looking to develop a similar group for men affected by prostate cancer.
“Cancer awareness is not only about wearing a ribbon; it is about taking action, encouraging loved ones to get checked, and ensuring that no one in our community feels alone,” said Royan Charles, President of SADO. “By dedicating September and October to prostate and breast cancer awareness, we hope to inspire meaningful conversations and practical steps toward healthier lives,” Charles added.
Planned activities include:
- 30 September: Let’s Talk Prostate Cancer featuring survivor Simon Samuel (via Zoom) at 7 pm
- 8 October: Heroes Church Service
- 15 October: Heroes Quilting and Vigil
- 26 October: Heroes Tea Party
- 31 October: SADO Health Fair, Progress Park from 10 am
- 31 October: SADO and Partners Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk from 3 pm, from Soubise to Progress
This year’s observance is celebrated under the theme, Together We Stand as One Community, United in Hope, and is dedicated to the memory of Crystal Calliste, one of our fallen heroes.
SADO invites community members, schools, churches, businesses, healthcare partners, and volunteers to join the awareness effort and help amplify messages that promote early detection and compassionate support.
