Post-carnival Police brief | NOW Grenada

The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) extends sincere gratitude to all stakeholders of Spicemas 2025 and the general public for their overwhelming cooperation and support rendered throughout what can be considered as one of the most successful and well-attended carnivals in our nation’s history.

Recognising the herculean task ahead, the RGPF developed and executed a comprehensive operations plan which was robust and sufficiently flexible to adapt to unforeseen challenges. This proactive approach, coupled with the public’s cooperation, greatly motivated and energised the men and women of the RGPF in the execution of their duties during the festive season.

This year’s carnival recorded a notable 24% decrease in reported crimes, both in number and severity, compared to 2024. However, despite this overall decline, there was a slight increase in property crimes, which remains a concern.

There was a significant rise in vehicular accidents during the just-ended carnival season. From Friday, 8 August to Wednesday, 13 August, 105 accidents, including 4 of a serious nature, were reported, compared to 61 accidents, only one of which was serious, during the same period in 2024.

Throughout the period, officers demonstrated vigilance, professionalism and effectiveness in ensuring public safety. Their efforts led to the confiscation of several offensive weapons/items, including 3 firearms, 5 rounds of ammunition, cutlasses, knives and scissors.

To the dedicated men and women of the RGPF — your sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering commitment during this labour-intensive period were nothing short of exemplary. You made Grenada proud. Thank you for your service and for upholding the safety and dignity of our nation during one of its most vibrant celebrations.

Finally, the Commissioner of Police, along with the executive team and all ranks of the RGPF, expresses heartfelt thanks to the people of Grenada for their trust, co-operation and partnership in achieving our shared security objectives. We look forward to your continued collaboration as we work to elevate the security consciousness of every citizen.
