The St George’s Baptist Church (SGBC) announces the retirement of its Senior Pastor, Rev. Stanford Simon, from the office of Senior Pastor, effective 31 March 2026, following over two 2 of faithful service to the congregation and wider community.
Rev. Simon’s retirement has been formally accepted by the Church Council and the membership of SGBC. His decision comes after a prolonged period of prayerful discernment and reflection on the long-term leadership and vision of the church, which is centered on “building communities.”
In reflecting on his decision, Rev. Simon shared:
“After serving this local church for over 2 decades, I have come to recognise the need for a thoughtful and timely leadership transition. More than a decade ago, I sensed the importance of preparing the church for succession and began holding this matter prayerfully before God. At that time, I did not feel a sense of peace that the appropriate leadership was yet in place to assume the pastoral role. I now discern that God has prepared the necessary personnel to ensure a smooth and faithful transition within the pastorate. Therefore, I step away from pastoral leadership with confidence, trusting that St. George’s Baptist Church will be entrusted to a shepherd who will lead God’s people forward, and continue to fulfill the church’s mission and vision in this community and beyond.”
In addition to his pastoral role at SGBC, Rev. Simon will also resign as President of the Grenada Baptist Association (GBA) and as Communications Officer of the Conference of Churches in Grenada (CCG), effective the same date, 31 March 2026.
The leadership of St George’s Baptist Church has already taken steps to ensure continuity and stability during this transition. A Pastoral Transition Committee has been established and is chaired by Mrs Matonia Munroe, a member of the Church’s Pastoral Team, who will serve as the Church’s official spokesperson on matters related to the transition process.
St George’s Baptist Church expresses deep gratitude to Rev. Simon for his years of dedicated service, spiritual leadership, and contribution to the life of the church and the wider Christian community in Grenada
