Grenada’s Accountant General Natika Bain-Charles represented the country at the 2026 Caribbean Public Financial Management (PFM) and Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) Roundtable, scheduled for 29 June to 1 July 2026, at the headquarters of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in St Kitts and Nevis.
Bain-Charles participated in her capacity as the Accountant General of Grenada and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Caribbean Accountant General Network.
The regional engagement includes accountants general from 19 Caribbean countries, public financial management practitioners, development partners, regional institutions and technical experts to examine common challenges and identify opportunities to strengthen public financial management systems across the Caribbean.
A major component of the programme includes the Caribbean Accountant General Network Council Meeting and the official launch of the network that took place on Monday, 29 June. Bain-Charles chaired the council meeting that included discussion on the vision, mission and future strategic direction of the network. She was formally appointed as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Network. The council meeting included an exchange with the Forum of Governmental Accounting of Latin America (FOCAL) on its experience in promoting regional cooperation, technical development and the sharing of best practices in Latin America.
The Caribbean Accountant General Network was formally established during a virtual inaugural meeting on 10 December 2025, following extensive discussions among regional Accountant Generals, public officials and international development partners. To date, 21 Caribbean countries have joined the network.
The network was created to provide a structured platform for cooperation, peer learning, capacity building and the exchange of information and technical expertise among accountants general throughout the Caribbean. It also seeks to promote greater harmonisation of public-sector accounting standards, practices and terminology across the region.
During the formal launch on 29 June, Bain-Charles said that “Your presence at today’s historic launch is an indication of a shared commitment among Caribbean Accountant Generals and our Development Partners to build resilient public institutions, strengthen public financial management and foster a community of practice that will benefit not only our respective countries but all Caribbean Citizens.”
The 3-day programme also included a Caribbean Public Financial Management Forum, and a 2-day PEFA workshop. The workshop will strengthen participants’ understanding of the PEFA Framework, its assessment methodology and its use in designing and implementing effective public financial management reforms. In her opening remarks at the PFM Forum, Bain-Charles said that “Today marks a defining moment in the evolution of public financial management in the Caribbean, bringing us together as custodians of our region’s financial integrity, united by a common purpose. I encourage you to share your experiences and ideas on how we can further strengthen public financial management for the benefit of all Caribbean citizens.”
The engagement is being organised through collaboration among the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre and the PEFA Secretariat.
Grenada’s leadership role in the network reflects the country’s continued commitment to strengthening accountability, transparency, institutional capacity and sound financial management throughout the public service.
