The High Commission for Grenada joined fellow Caricom Diplomatic Missions in London in celebrating the 53rd Anniversary of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) at a Reception and Awards Ceremony held on Monday, 6 July 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Tower of London.
The event brought together diplomats, parliamentarians, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, representatives of the Caribbean diaspora, and friends of the region to commemorate more than five decades of Caribbean integration and cooperation.
Grenada was represented by Her Excellency Rachér Croney, High Commissioner for Grenada to the United Kingdom, who also serves as Chair of the Caricom Events Committee, providing leadership in coordinating this year’s celebration. Staff of the High Commission also participated in the event and hosted a “Pure Grenada” exhibition, which promoted the country’s distinctive cultural heritage, world-class products, and investment opportunities.
The exhibition invited guests to experience the authentic flavours of the Isle of Spice through a curated display of Grenadian chocolate, spices, and other locally produced products while showcasing opportunities for investment across priority sectors, including tourism, renewable energy, agribusiness, the Blue Economy, and the creative industries. The display reflected Grenada’s commitment to sustainable economic development and reinforced its position as a competitive destination for international trade and investment.
Speaking at the event, High Commissioner Croney noted that the celebration provided an important platform to strengthen regional solidarity while promoting Grenada’s national development priorities. “Caricom Day is a celebration of our shared Caribbean identity, resilience and collective achievements. It also provides an opportunity to showcase Grenada’s unique strengths and the many opportunities available for partnership, trade and investment. As Small Island Developing States, our greatest strength lies in our unity, our collaboration, and our shared commitment to sustainable development and regional prosperity.”
The official programme commenced with remarks by His Excellency Dr Kevin Isaac, High Commissioner for St Kitts and Nevis, who concluded his tenure as Chair of the Caricom Caucus of Diplomatic Missions in London. During the ceremony, the Caricom flag was formally handed to His Excellency Anthony Severin, High Commissioner for St Lucia, marking the transfer of the Chairmanship of the Caucus.
Guests also received remarks from The Honourable Chris Elmore MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State responsible for Multilateral Affairs, Human Rights, Latin America and the Caribbean, who reaffirmed the importance of the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and the Caribbean. A video message from The Honourable Philip J Pierre, Prime Minister of St Lucia and Chair of Caricom, highlighted the community’s commitment to regional integration, economic resilience, climate action, and collective responses to global challenges.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2026 Caricom Awards, recognising individuals whose outstanding contributions have advanced Caribbean development and strengthened regional cooperation. This year’s recipients were:
- Jacqueline Roberts (St Vincent and the Grenadines) — Advocacy for Small States Award
- Bertha Joseph (Dominica) —Community Development Award
- Dr Les Johnson (Jamaica) —Culture and Education Award
The formal programme concluded with a ceremonial toast to Caricom, delivered by High Commissioner Croney, celebrating the community’s achievements over the past 53 years and reaffirming the values of unity, cooperation, resilience, and shared purpose that continue to define the Caribbean Community.
As Caricom continues to strengthen its voice on the global stage, Grenada remains committed to working closely with fellow member states to advance regional priorities, including climate resilience, sustainable economic growth, food and nutrition security, digital transformation, youth empowerment, and increased opportunities for trade and investment.
The High Commission for Grenada congratulates His Excellency Anthony Severin on assuming the Chairmanship of the Caricom Caucus in London and expresses its sincere appreciation to His Excellency Dr Kevin Isaac for his dedicated leadership and distinguished service.
