Although the extended camp on the mainland was cancelled due to the office relocating to Archibald Avenue, the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) held a one-day Curious Little Hands in the Kitchen session in Carriacou on Wednesday, 6 August.

This marks the third of 4 sessions scheduled for the year, following 2 completed sessions in St David. Organised and facilitated by Charisse Bristol, GFNC’s Nutrition Education & Promotion Coordinator, the programme combined cooking, hand hygiene, and nutrition education in an interactive format designed especially for young learners.

All the activities ensured that the little ones engaged their cognitive and motor skills through food-matching games and basic culinary tasks such as measuring, mixing, cutting, and baking. Together with Bristol, the children prepared food items, such as sautéed mango sauce and lentil tortilla, using local ingredients. Throughout the process, the facilitator explained the nutritional value of each ingredient. The session promoted teamwork and a sense of achievement. Additionally, the children received a first-hand activity to observe the consequences of not thoroughly washing their hands during the Glo Germ activity. A black light was shone on their palms, proving in real time whether the special powder was partially removed or thoroughly cleaned off using soap and water.

Curious Little Hands in the Kitchen supports GFNC’s mission to help children make informed food choices and practice healthy lifestyles.
