The European Union Caribbean Nutrition (EU–CaN) Initiative, in collaboration with regional and international partners, will host an OECS Regional Policy Accelerator Workshop on Healthy Diets and Nutrition Awareness from 30 June to 2 July 2026 at the TrueBlue Bay Boutique Resort, True Blue, St George.

The workshop is being coordinated with the support of the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council and is expected to convene approximately 27 delegates from key regional and international organisations, including the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and 23 delegates from Grenada.

This high-level regional engagement will focus on strengthening multisectoral collaboration and accelerating policy action to promote healthy diets and improved nutrition outcomes across the Caribbean. Participants will work toward developing practical, actionable strategies to address the region’s most pressing nutrition challenges.

The workshop comes at a critical time, as Caribbean countries continue to face a rising burden of diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cardiac diseases and cancers. In addition, it will place special emphasis on addressing nutritional vulnerabilities among women, girls, and youth, who are disproportionately affected by poor dietary patterns and limited access to healthy food options.

By bringing together policymakers, public health experts, and development partners, the Regional Policy Accelerator aims to:

• Increase awareness of nutrition challenges affecting women, girls and youth in OECS countries
• Facilitate exchange of experiences and lessons learned on nutrition policies, healthy food environments and awareness initiatives with gender perspective
• Support countries in identifying practical gender-transformative policy plans and healthy diet awareness actions
• Promote multisectoral coordination and collaborative action to support policy implementation and inform regional recommendations and an OECS nutrition roadmap

The EU CaN Initiative remains committed to working with regional partners to build healthier, more resilient communities by addressing nutrition challenges through coordinated policy action and public engagement.
