Dr Adrian Joseph has been formally nominated as the New National Party (NNP) caretaker for St George North West following a well-attended meeting that marked a defining moment of renewal and continuity for the party.
Dr Joseph’s nomination positions him to contest the seat long represented by the Rt Hon. Dr Keith Mitchell, as the party prepares for the next general election with a new generation stepping forward. A respected public servant and diplomat, Dr Joseph brings a calm, professional, and service-oriented approach to politics, grounded in community engagement and national experience.
His nomination was met with strong support from delegates and constituents, reflecting confidence in his ability to represent St George North West with integrity and fresh perspective.
Addressing the gathering, the Honourable Emmalin Pierre, MP, Political Leader of the New National Party and Leader of the Opposition, described the nomination as part of a deliberate and disciplined transition designed to strengthen the party and prepare it for the future.
“This moment reflects a party that plans ahead and puts country first,” Pierre noted. “Dr Joseph represents the kind of leadership we want to see, capable, grounded, and focused on service. Our task now is to continue building a strong team that can deliver for the people of Grenada while honouring the legacy and standards set by Dr Mitchell.”
The nomination meeting also served as a point of reflection and appreciation for Dr the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, Grenada’s longest-serving Prime Minister and founder of the New National Party. With Dr Joseph’s nomination, Dr Mitchell takes the final step in his transition from representational politics after decades of distinguished service to Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.
Dr Mitchell’s contribution to national development, party building, and regional leadership was widely acknowledged at the meeting. While he will not be seeking election, he will remain close to the party as a trusted advisor and elder statesman, offering guidance shaped by experience and deep institutional knowledge.
“This is not an ending, but a transition guided by experience and responsibility,” party officials noted. “Dr Mitchell built a solid institution. Emmalin Pierre leads it forward. Dr Adrian Joseph now brings his own leadership and commitment to serve the people of St George North West.”
The New National Party enters this next phase united, confident in its leadership, and focused on delivering opportunity, stability, and good governance for all Grenadians.
