Ariza Credit Union is pleased to announce that its secondary schools scholarship has been renamed the Merryl Baptiste-Lord Memorial Scholarship in honour of the late Merryl Baptiste-Lord, whose unwavering commitment to education and youth development left an indelible mark on the organisation and the wider Grenadian community.
Sister Baptiste-Lord served on Ariza’s Scholarship Awards Committee for over 2 decades and chaired the committee from 2012 until her passing in April 2026. Widely respected for her dedication to education and her passion for seeing young people achieve their goals, she played an instrumental role in shaping the scholarship programme and guiding countless students on their educational journey.
A true educator at heart, Sister Baptiste-Lord devoted much of her life to teaching, mentoring, and encouraging Grenada’s youth. Through her work with the Scholarship Committee, she became personally acquainted with many scholarship recipients and their families, offering words of encouragement, practical advice, and motivation as they pursued their academic aspirations. Ariza members and scholarship recipients alike came to appreciate her heartfelt and inspiring addresses during scholarship award ceremonies, where she consistently emphasised the transformative power of education.
According to the President of Ariza’s Board of Directors Sister AlanaTwum-Barimah, “Merryl Baptiste-Lord was the epitome of a dedicated educator. She exemplified Ariza’s values and never missed an opportunity to stress the importance of education at every level. Her passion for student success was evident in everything she did.”
Sister Baptiste-Lord worked tirelessly to ensure that every scholarship awarded was granted to a deserving candidate. Her commitment extended far beyond the selection process; she maintained a keen interest in the progress of scholarship recipients and often followed their academic and professional achievements. Remarkably, she could recall the names of recipients from many years past and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Ariza encourages future recipients of the Merryl Baptiste-Lord Scholarship to embody the values she held dear — commitment, excellence, perseverance, service, and a lifelong appreciation for learning.
Recipients of the Merryl Baptiste-Lord Memorial Scholarship receive financial assistance and support from Ariza throughout the 5-year duration of their secondary school journey, helping them achieve their educational goals and reach their full potential.
