In a notable night for Grenada’s Spicemas festivities, Bacchanal Friday crowned 2 new soca monarchs, with Sabrina Francis taking the Groovy Soca Monarch title and Rio “Snakey” St Paul claiming the Power Soca Monarch.

Sabrina, daughter of veteran calypsonian Lady Empress, entered the soca arena with an established international career in Afro-Caribbean pop. Some of her credits include a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall supporting Asa, appearances with vocal group Pentatonix and regional concert projects including Wide Open and Meet Me at the Mango Tree. Her winning track, “Honour You,” was produced by Stemz Productions and mixed and mastered by Johann “Madman” Seaton.

In a tight finish, Sabrina dethroned defending champion Mr Gold’n, who finished fifth. Boyzie placed second — also securing the best Groovy Intro Video while Muddy placed third. Reflecting on her debut, Sabrina said the experience had already begun to influence how she approaches her music. “Performing on a big monarch stage is very, very different. There’s a different way you have to speak, a different way you have to carry yourself, command 10,000 people,” she said. “I will take a lot from it.”

In the Power Soca competition, Snakey took the crown with his high-tempo entry, “Raging Seas,” which was produced by Alix “XILA” Aird, also known as Sandman, and mastered by Rezonance. Snakey previously competed in the 2024 Power Soca competition, advancing to the semifinals but falling short of a place in the finals. Two years later, the Police Constable #309 returned to the competition and captured the title.

Representing St John, Snakey spoke about self-belief and discipline ahead of his performance: “Just think positive and shoot and go because the success starts from you. If you don’t believe in yourself, people won’t believe in you. Believe in yourself, and people will believe in you.”

Defending champion Muddy finished second and received the Best Power Soca Intro Video award, while Lil Kerry placed third.
