An intense weather instability with rainfalls, storms, locally hail and Sahara Dust will affect Greece from Tuesday until the end of the week, May 19-24, 2026.
At the same time, temperatures will remain high according to the seasonal average.
According to forecasts by Greek meteorologists local rainfalls will be recorded in Attica and Thessaloniki, and storms in Macedonia and Thessaly.
The temperature will reach 25 degrees Celsius in the eastern mainland and the Dodecanese and 23 to 24 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.
According to Greece’s National Meteorological Service (EMY), strong storms will occur in western and central Macedonia and Thessaly during the midday and afternoon hours on Tuesday. Winds in the south will reach 7 Beaufort.
EMY noted that initially in western – central Macedonia and gradually in the rest of the mainland, there will be temporarily increased cloudiness with local rain or drizzle and mainly in the central and northern areas, sporadic storms, possibly in the midday and afternoon hours, locally strong.
In the rest of the country, sparse clouds in places and periods are denser. Visibility in the morning hours in western mainland will be locally limited.
Winds will blow north-northwest 3 to 5 and gradually from the afternoon 5 to 6 and in the southern seas west-northwest, possibly locally up to 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 25 in eastern mainland and the Dodecanese and 23 to 24 degrees Celsius in the rest of the areas.
On Friday, May 22, temperature is forecast to reach even 26° C in most of the country.
On Saturday, May 23, the country will be divided into two parts. In the center, west and north we will encounter rain and local storms, while in the south of the country we expect a lot of heat and African dust, although there will also be some short and light mud showers.
As of Sunday, May 24, the winds will shift to west-northwest and the atmosphere will be clearing.
