Tripidakis briefs Myrogianni on Diaspora issues

Greek lawyer Giannis Tripidakis met in Athens with Maira Myrogianni, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for Diaspora Affairs, as part of his ongoing engagements with relevant authorities in Greece.

The meeting aimed to address the need to accelerate procedures at Greek consulates and to ensure stronger protection of the personal, property and inheritance rights of members of the Greek diaspora.

During the discussion, Tripidakis outlined a series of issues arising from the current legal framework, noting that these could be further exacerbated by the implementation of a recent law. Under the new legislation, the publication of wills will now be carried out exclusively by Greek consulates, a change that raises concerns about delays and administrative burden for Greeks living abroad.

Tripidakis highlighted the practical challenges this shift may create for expatriates, particularly in countries where consulates already face heavy workloads, and stressed the importance of reviewing procedures to prevent additional hardship for the diaspora.
