Storm “Erminio” has caused widespread destruction across several regions of Greece, including the Attica region, where a man lost his life in Nea Makri. Firefighters recovered the victim from beneath a vehicle that had been swept away by floodwaters on Pythagoras Street.

Across the Attica Basin, the Fire Service has responded to hundreds of calls regarding fallen trees and other emergencies, with significant damage reported in the southern suburbs.

Eastern Attica and the northern suburbs have been particularly hard hit, with streets transformed into rushing torrents. On Marathonos Avenue, near Rafina, cars and a bus were immobilized by high water levels. In Poros, roads flooded, a small bridge collapsed, and several vehicles were washed away; schools on the island remain closed today. Severe problems were also reported on Crete and Rhodes.

Storm “Erminio”: Forecast for Thursday

Heavy rain, storms, and potential hail are expected in:

Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and parts of Central Macedonia (Halkidiki, Serres): Until early afternoon.

Northern Evia, Magnesia, the Sporades, and Lemnos: Until midday.

Western and Southern Peloponnese: From afternoon until late night.

Crete (mainly western and southern parts): From early afternoon until late night.

Gale-force winds of 8 to 9 Beaufort are expected in the northeast (Halkidiki, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and Lemnos) until midday. Additionally, high concentrations of African dust are expected in the south, particularly across Crete, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese.
