A meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been arranged to take place on Tuesday, September 23.
Citing government sources, media report that the meeting will take place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, most likely at noon on Tuesday (New York time – evening Greek time).
The meeting will be attended by Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and the Prime Minister’s diplomatic advisor Milton Nikolaidis from the Greek side. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and diplomatic advisor Akif Cagatay Kilic from the Turkish side.
The agenda of the meeting is expected to be set in the coming days.
It is recalled that Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in an interview on Wednesday, stated that there is an intention to meet with Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the context of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Speaking about the Greek-Turkish conflict, Mitsotakis called on the Greek people not to worry, as he himself estimates that there is no case for a “hot incident” in the Aegean, without, however, allowing for complacency.
“There is an intention on both sides to find time and I believe that since there is a willingness to find time, even though we will coincide for a while, I believe that we will be able to find the time to hold the meeting…”, Mitsotakis had said characteristically.
Greek-Turkish relations currently experience a fresh low due to an unexpected Greek military exercise in the Aegean Sea.
PS meeting at the sidelines of events do not end in any “breakthrough” whatsoever, anyway.
