Alarm rang that the Police Headquarters (GADA) in central Athens early on Friday evening, when a man holding an object looking like a grenade started to shout he would “blow everything up!”
The man appeared at the guardhouse in front of the GADA building on Alexandras Avenue, posed himself in front of the guards and started threatening to cause an explosion.
He was saying that he had explosives on him and that he would “blow everything up”. .
An alarm was immediately raised and the area was cordoned off, while Alexandra Avenue was closed to both traffic lanes.
After a short while, police officers intervened, managed to distract the man who was demanding to make a phone call and arrested him.

According to media initial information, the man is a 48-year-old of Sudenese origin and is believed to be a drug user.
ALPHA TV reported that police seized the object the man was holding that was indeed a grenade and found another two in his backpack.
He was also had a recent letter of his release for prison after he had served for drug possession.
Some media reported that special teams of police will bring the back-bag into explosion as preventive measures, while the grenades will be brought to police labs for further investigation.
The grenades appear to be real, but will be examined by special teams of pyro-technicians to determine whether they are indeed real and whether they are functional.
