The Venetian Harbor of Chania is set to be transformed into the set of a major motion picture inspired by the iconic 1948 novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, Christ is Recrucified.

From October 27 to November 7, filming is scheduled to take place for the new feature film, Xanastavronetai (Recrucified), directed by Thodoris Papadoulakis.

This cinematic adaptation marks a significant undertaking, bringing one of the most powerful and controversial works of modern Greek literature—which explores themes of moral duty, social justice, and the cyclical nature of human suffering—to a global audience.

The film’s production, led by Indigo View Productions, will utilize various locations within the historic Venetian Harbour, including Katechaki Square, Yali Tzami Square, Akti Koundourioti, and the breakwater leading to the Lighthouse. The complex shoot will involve support crews and the use of drones, depending on the scene requirements.

Thodoris Papadoulakis, widely known for the successful television series The Island and other award-winning productions, is directing his first feature film. The project is a major European co-production involving Indigo View Productions (Greece), The Piranesi Experience (Italy), Boycott Films (Cyprus), and Amour Fou (Luxembourg).
