Harbis family reunion celebrates legacy across generations

Generations of one Greek Australian family got together over the weekend for a family reunion at Lysterfield Lake attended by relatives ranging in age from three months to 90 years.

The Harbis family traces its Australian beginnings to the late 1950s, when Eleftherios and Eleni Harbis migrated from the village of Palladio in Tripoli, Greece, with their six sons and two daughters. The family arrived in Australia in stages, settling in Mildura and later Melbourne.

Over the decades, the family expanded, with descendants now spread across multiple generations.

Reunions have been held to allow family members to reconnect and share memories of earlier years.

The most recent gathering brought together parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, reflecting the growth of the family since its arrival in Australia.

The reunion provided an opportunity for relatives of different generations to spend time together and acknowledge the family’s shared history.
