Greek passenger of MV Hondius in isolation at Athens hospital

The Greek passenger from the cruise ship MV Hondius where Hantavirus outbreak occured, arrived on a C-130 of the Greek Air Force at the military airport of Elefsina at 3:20 on Monday morning. He was immediately transferred to Attikon hospital in western Athens.

According to a post on X by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, the passenger is fever-free and asymptomatic and shows no signs of illness.

The minister stressed that “for purely precautionary reasons, he has been transferred to Attikon Hospital and placed in quarantine. There is absolutely no reason for concern.”

The 70-year-old passenger had initially arrived at Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands aboard a Dutch aircraft and from there boarded the special Hellenic Air Force flight bound for the military airport in Elefsina.

He was then transferred by ambulance to Attikon Hospital, where he will remain isolated in a negative-pressure room for 45 days and have blood tests every second day.

Note that during the evacuation of MV Hondius over the weekend, two Americans and one French developed symptoms and were tested positive in the virus.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis appeared reassuring saying that there is absolutely no fear of Hantavirus outbreak in Greece.

Speaking to skai TV, the minister justified the fact that the Greek passenger was in isolation at a hospital and not at home because of tourism.

“We’re at the begin of the tourism season, so there can’t be even the slightest suspicion of a virus outbreak.” Georgiadis stressed.

PS …meaning had it not be for the tourists, we wouldn’t care about the locals 🙄
